Kratos Defense & Security Solutions announced that Mr. Frank Backes has been named Vice President of Business Development for Kratos SATCOM Products and Federal Satellite Solutions . Long a leader in the satellite industry, Mr. Backes was most recently Chief Executive Officer for Braxton Technologies LLC and Braxton Science and Technology Group, LLC, leading manufacturers of command and control software for intelligence, military and commercial applications based in Colorado Springs, CO. As CEO, he grew Braxton revenue from $6 million to more than $55 million.
In announcing the appointment, John Monahan, SVP of Kratos SATCOM Products and Federal Satellite Solutions, pointed to Mr. Backes’ years of executive experience, which includes solutions architecture and product strategy as well as business development. “Frank is well known in our industry as a creative thinker who helps customers solve their most difficult challenges,” said Monahan. “His technology background spans many of the critical directions that are changing the satellite ground environment, including Software as a Service (SaaS) architectures, cybersecurity and software engineering. As a key member of our team he will help us elevate our ability to deliver integrated, strategic solutions across our products and services.”
Prior to Braxton, Mr. Backes was Chief Technology Officer and Chief Financial Officer at 3Si Holdings, Inc., a hardware and software integrator and reseller for major computer companies. His industry experience also includes senior roles at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). At Kratos he will focus on products and strategic solutions for the defense, intelligence and civilian government markets.
