Eutelsat has announced that its OneWeb low Earth orbit (LEO) connectivity services are being deployed to connect passenger trains in Gabon, delivered in partnership with Airtel Gabon.
The deployment builds on successful testing and is being implemented as part of a national initiative led by the Gabonese Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization and Innovation and the Ministry of Transport, Merchant Marine and Logistics, in collaboration with the Transgabon Railway Operating Company (SETRAG). By extending LEO connectivity to rail transport, the project will support Gabon’s efforts to integrate digital services into public transportation, modernise the railway experience and enhance passenger comfort, while enabling reliable broadband services along long-distance routes beyond the reach of terrestrial networks.
This deployment extends the reach of Eutelsat’s established OneWeb LEO services in Africa and reflects the Group’s continued focus on working with governments and telecom operators to support digital infrastructure development, including in transport and other public services. It also reinforces Eutelsat’s collaboration with Airtel, laying the groundwork for a broader deployment of rail connectivity solutions across the continent.
Philippe Baudrier, Vice President, Africa, Eutelsat said: “This deployment with Airtel Gabon reflects Eutelsat’s commitment to extending the benefits of OneWeb LEO connectivity in support of national digital initiatives. It also reinforces our partnership with Airtel and establishes a strong foundation for additional rail connectivity projects across Africa. By enabling reliable broadband services on passenger trains, we are contributing to the modernisation of public transport infrastructure and an improved travel experience for rail passengers in Gabon.”
Thomas Herbert Gutjahr, Airtel Gabon Managing Director added: “Working with Eutelsat, the government, and national partners such as SETRAG, we are supporting the delivery of onboard connectivity services that enhance passenger comfort and support the integration of digital services into Gabon’s rail network. This project reflects our broader commitment to supporting the country’s highest authorities in their vision for innovation and digital transformation across the country.”

Eutelsat and Airtel Gabon bring LEO rail connectivity to Gabon, modernizing travel. Just as Pips in the NYT game brings fresh twists, this project adds new digital dimensions to rail services.
That's awesome news for people traveling on those trains in Gabon! It's cool to see more places getting connected. Speaking of exploring and going on journeys, I've been having fun with pokepath – it's a surprisingly addictive little game about building up a dwarven army!
Cool to see this kind of satellite setup being used to make long train rides in Gabon feel a bit more connected and modern.
On my side, half the time I’m just killing time on a little tower defense spin-off like this Poké-style raid page when I’m on the move.
And when I’m more in a puzzle mood I end up poking at today’s minimalist queen-move challenge in my browser between other tabs .
I found matlab assignment help useful while practicing MATLAB problems, especially for understanding logic errors and improving my coding approach.
This is such an innovative use of satellite tech for trains! It reminds me of how tricky puzzles can be, like when I get stuck on a hexa away skills level and need a guide to find the solution.
