PLD Space, an international space transportation company, yesterday reaffirmed its commitment to French Guiana during an institutional presentation held in Cayenne, where it announced the creation of 56 direct and indirect jobs by 2030 for the MIURA 5 launch complex at the Guiana Space Center (CSG), owned by CNES.
The official presentation by PLD Space in French Guiana was very well received by local authorities and organizations, with the attendance of prominent representatives from the Prefecture of French Guiana, the Territorial Authority of Guyana, the City Halls of Cayenne and Kourou, Guyana Development Initiative (GDI), the Port of Guyana, the University of Guyana, the Local Public Corporation for Digital Development of Guyana (Splang), as well as the French space agency CNES.
PLD Space’s project at the CSG involves developing a fully integrated launch infrastructure for the MIURA 5 rocket, its reusable launcher designed to offer competitive and sustainable services worldwide. Thanks to its strategic location near the equator, the CSG enables optimized launch trajectories and the ability to carry heavier payloads with lower fuel consumption.
“This is a key step in our vision to become Europe’s leading provider of space transportation services,” said Ezequiel Sánchez, Executive President of PLD Space. “Our commitment to French Guiana not only drives local industrial development but also places us in a privileged position to meet the growing demand for orbital launches from European soil.”
The project will have a positive impact on the local economy by fostering collaboration with regional suppliers for civil engineering, maintenance, and management services, while also invigorating related sectors such as digital, education, and transportation.
Additionally, PLD Space will promote in French Guiana the same training and knowledge transfer initiatives it is already carrying out in Spain, such as the PLD Space Academy, the Early Talent Program, and Career Days, as well as partnerships with local organizations aimed at nurturing talent and strengthening ties between the two countries.
Sustainable growth and launch roadmap
At the event, the company also presented its MIURA 5 launch manifesto, which foresees initial missions starting in 2026, ramping up to 30 launches per year by 2030, further consolidating the CSG’s role as one of the world’s key hubs for access to space.
With this roadmap, PLD Space reinforces its commitment to global launch capacity, contributing to Europe’s strategic autonomy while generating economic, social, and technological value in French Guiana, positioning itself as a benchmark for the new generation of space transportation.
