SSC Space and Kuva Space sign LOI to strengthen Nordic space capabilities

SSC Space and Kuva Space, a Finnish space technology company building hyperspectral Earth observation satellites and AI-driven intelligence solutions, have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to explore a strategic collaboration focused on commercial, institutional, and security-related space opportunities.

“The potential collaboration is intended to leverage the complementary strengths of both parties, supporting closer Finnish and Swedish cooperation in security-related space activities while also advancing their respective commercial interests. Kuva Space is a driving force in the thriving and innovative Finnish space market,” says Charlotta Sund, President and CEO at SSC Space.

The Letter of Intent comes at a time when space is taking on greater strategic weight across the Nordic region and Europe. Recent public investment in national capabilities and the EU’s push for more secure, sovereign space infrastructure point to a broader change in how the sector is viewed: not simply as a commercial or scientific domain, but as part of the region’s long-term resilience and operational readiness. In this context, closer cooperation between trusted space actors in the Nordics and Europe is becoming increasingly relevant.

Under the LOI, the parties will explore opportunities for joint participation in commercial, defense, and institutional space programs with a particular focus on the Nordic region. The dialog will include:

  • Ground segment services – Provision of satellite mission operations, data downlink, and telemetry, tracking, and control (TT&C) services through the SSC Space global ground station network to support KUVA’s growing constellation.

  • Space segment and mission development – Exploration of hosted payload opportunities, satellite deployment strategies, next-generation mission architectures, and technology development programs.

  • Launch and Early orbit services – Potential use of SSC Space launch infrastructure and services, including Esrange Space Center, to support KUVA’s future spacecraft missions.

  • Downstream analytics services – Provision of AI-powered analytics intelligence over land and sea, covering maritime domain awareness and change and anomaly detection.

“SSC Space brings deep operational heritage and critical infrastructure in areas that matter to the future of European space activity. For Kuva Space, this dialog is an opportunity to explore how complementary Swedish and Finnish capabilities could support more ambitious missions, stronger regional resilience, and new commercial and institutional opportunities,” says Jarkko Antila, CEO of Kuva Space.
