The satellite industry is evolving within a wider telecoms ecosystem that is advancing at a rapid pace. Applications across every industry and end users globally are demanding more as technology advances and networks become more capable.

Since 2000, ND SATCOM has been serving the communications market and has remained an innovative player through its customer-focused approach. As policy direction has continued to shift toward decentralization, hybridization, and frictionless integration, ND Satcom has stayed on the same page. We spoke to Michael Nebel, Head of Product Management about their strategy.

Although the recent Virgin Orbit launch failure is by no means the end of the UK’s sovereign space ambitions, it is a reminder that the satellite and space industries are fraught with risk. Still, the NewSpace economy offers plenty of upside potential if you’re willing to play the long game.

Satellite operators run a truly global business case, which demands a plurality that some businesses find tricky. The growing LEO empire of OneWeb requires disseminated expertise around the world, which is where regional proxies like OneWeb Technologies (formerly TrustComm), come in. As the United States branch, it’s up to OneWeb Technologies to forge a path forward for LEO in North America, where the market boom began and soon saturated. We spoke to Kevin Steen, CEO of OneWeb Technologies to hear their strategy going forward.

In the wake of a wave of high-profile cyberattacks on commercial business and national infrastructure across the western world, scrutiny has fallen upon the more mundane spheres of civilian enterprise and critical services to strengthen their cyber presence. Simon West, Cyber Advisory Lead for Resilience explains where the flaws lie, and what businesses can do about them.

Cyberattacks have been an ever-increasing threat to all devices across the world, no matter the industry. Check Point Research recently found that the number of cyberattacks in the third quarter of 2022 had risen by 28 percent when compared to the same period the previous year. In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a monumental shift to remote working, and this has only compounded the vulnerabilities as new attack vectors are exploited.

Innovations in propulsion technologies are aimed at keeping space clear, safe, and sustainable. Payloads capable of reaching ideal orbits on their own eliminate the burden on launch vehicles to get there. The next few years of propulsion development and deployment will play a huge part in enabling and unlocking the exciting possibilities and opportunities around just about every type of mission you can imagine.

Tech-led developments are ensuring that the outlook for the defence industry is positive for the year ahead. Additive manufacturing and more digitized ship manufacturing are just a handful of new approaches set to improve manufacturing processes and military equipment readiness. The ocean is now being infiltrated by uncrewed military vessels and military frameworks are being drawn for space operations – the next frontier of the defence sector.

Last year, Satellogic signed an agreement with the GREEN+ Jurisdictional Programme on monitoring all subnational protected areas of the planet. Now in 2023, with their multiple launch agreement with SpaceX coming into force, covering its next 68 satellites, Satellogic aspires to capture every square meter of the Earth’s surface daily in high-resolution to support environmental protection. We spoke to Caitlin Kontgis, Satellogic VP of Go-to-Market about the green opportunities in space, and how they ripple across various industries.

Rivada Space Networks’ aspirations to produce a new constellation of optically linked high-security LEO satellites has drawn plenty of eyes since its announcement. With a fleet of orbital platforms designed to stand up to the critical requirements of a world increasingly under threat from cyber interference, Ronald van der Breggan, Chief Commercial Officer at Rivada Space Networks (RSN) discusses how they are able to deliver what their competitors cannot.

Rocket Lab’s first Electron mission to launch from US soil, dubbed “Virginia is for Launch Lovers”, made its ascent on January 24. Beneath the light-hearted nomenclature the company uses for all its missions lies a commitment to safety and success that is dead serious. In 2022, the company had 9 flawless launches including the pathfinder to the Moon, CAPSTONE. According to Peter Beck, Rocket Lab’s Founder and CEO, 2023 is setting up to be even more exciting.
