In January 2020 Intersputnik transferred to Mongolian operator Isatcom LLC an interest-free loan in the amount of USD 300,000 for the purchase of hub station and user terminal equipment to be used to upgrade and expand Isatcom’s VSAT network in the territory of Mongolia. Made available under a program for the development of satellite telecommunications business in the member countries of Intersputnik, which has recently been approved by the Board and the Operations Committee, this loan will help Isatcom implement a project to update the existing satellite network, offer advanced telecommunications satellite services in Mongolia, and further develop up-to-date satellite services in the country.

The main purpose of the approved Development Program is to assist the member countries of Intersputnik in carrying out innovative space projects including those in the field of satellite telecommunications, satellite radio and video broadcasting, manufacture of satellite and telecommunications equipment, and upgrading of the ground satellite telecommunications segment.

Progress in the Implementation of the Development Program

In 2018, the joint session of the Intersputnik Board and Operations Committee decided for the first time in the Organization’s history, to launch Intersputnik’s own investment program in order to implement innovative satellite telecommunications projects in the member countries. To this end, there was set aside a special-purpose fund amounting to up to USD 4.5 million.

In August 2018 Intersputnik announced that it was inviting preliminary bids under the Development Program. According to the rules of the Program, the winning bidder may receive up to USD 750,000 out of Intersputnik’s investment fund.

On October 31, 2019 the tender board completed the evaluation of applications for funding. It was decided that Isatcom LLC’s bid met the Program’s requirements, and the company’s project was qualified for tenders. In late 2019 the tender board chose the triple play project aimed at providing broadband, voice and video services in Mongolia’s rural areas as the winner of the 2019 tenders.

Prospects of the Development Program

The investment program mainly intended for companies in the member countries, but there can also be reviewed projects from other countries. Today, Intersputnik unites 26 sovereign states: Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Hungary, Vietnam, Germany, Georgia, India, Yemen, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Cuba, Laos, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Poland, Russia, Romania, Syria, Somalia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and the Czech Republic.

Intersputnik is working to attract new potential applicants to take part in the next tenders. Specifically, for this purpose there will be held in Hungary in March 2020 a regional Information Day for potential participants in the next tender scheduled for the current year, in the first place, for companies from Central and Eastern Europe.

Feel free to contact the Regional Projects Development Division at investprog@intersputnik.com to make a bid and get more information concerning participation in the tender.
