UKNEST hosts exclusive event on HMS Prince of Wales

The United Kingdom Naval Engineering Science & Technology (UKNEST) association is hosting an exclusive event for defence industry professionals aboard the HMS Prince of Wales on Monday 2nd March, while the Royal Navy aircraft carrier is visiting Liverpool.

The event will bring together military dignitaries, defence industry innovators and young engineers across the defence industry to look ahead to the future of collaborative capabilities within naval engineering and inspire the next generation of engineers.

Ben Dobson, Executive Co-ordinator at UKNEST said, “The opportunity to welcome UKNEST members and their guests aboard the HMS Prince of Wales is a fantastic chance to celebrate the UK defence industry’s ability to deliver world-renowned naval technology and capabilities.”

The event hosted by UKNEST features three distinct zones; a UKNEST member technology and capability exhibition, a presentation and discussion space along with an area showcasing naval helicopters and a large ship model built by industry apprentices. Guests will be able to experience hands-on demonstrations, videos and presentations as well as take part in VIP tours of the vessel.

The exhibition area will showcase UKNEST members’ latest capabilities and collaborative innovations and will be open to exclusive guests and chiefs of defence staff. This will bring together innovations from prime contractors such as BAE Systems as well as cutting-edge naval technology from members including anti-submarine warfare experts SEA.

The event will also provide a platform for young engineers, graduates and apprentices to discover more about a career in the defence industry by learning from their peers.

Ben Dobson, Executive Co-ordinator at UKNEST added, “The next generation of engineers will bring fresh ideas, innovations and capabilities that will push the boundaries of our abilities today. By bringing together the industry and our newest recruits, we can explore cutting-edge technologies and approach challenges from a new perspective to deliver the very best capabilities and technology for our military.”

The HMS Prince of Wales is at the heart of the Royal Navy fleet and is one of the most powerful and largest warships ever constructed in the UK. A major collaborative project which was successfully completed by the UK defence industry, Ministry of Defence (MoD) and supply chain network, the ship was formally commissioned into the Royal Navy fleet in December 2019.
