3rd CIS Games kicked off via Azercosmos’ Azerspace-1

Azerbaijan showcased its technological and cultural strength at the opening ceremony of the “3rd CIS Games”, held in Ganja city. The event was broadcast live on Azerbaijan Television through the Azerspace-1 satellite, allowing millions of viewers across Asia and Europe to witness the start of this international sporting celebration.

By leveraging its own satellite infrastructure, Azerbaijan ensured the Games reached a broad international audience, underlining the nation’s growing role as both a regional sports hub and a provider of cutting-edge space technologies.

The “3rd CIS Games” will take place from September 28 to October 8, 2025, across seven cities in Azerbaijan. Ganja city will host the opening and closing ceremonies, along with competitions in eight sports disciplines. This year’s edition has drawn 1,624 athletes from 13 countries, celebrating unity, cultural exchange, and athletic excellence.

Azerspace-1, launched in 2013, is Azerbaijan’s first telecommunications satellite, delivering broadcasting, broadband, and data services to more than 45 countries. Its role in bringing the Games to a global audience underscores its importance in connecting Azerbaijan with the wider world.
