Akkodis and Space Norway sign MoU on satellite communications for civil preparedness

Akkodis Nordics and Space Norway have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on communications solutions for civil preparedness across the Nordic region.

The proposed collaboration will combine Space Norway’s satellite services with Akkodis expertise in platform development, cyber security and systems integration. The solutions will support a range of satellite connectivity options to meet different customer requirements.

The aim is to make satellite connectivity available as part of integrated business continuity solutions. These will provide municipalities, emergency services, healthcare providers, humanitarian organisations, utilities and critical infrastructure operators with secure connectivity that can be deployed wherever it is needed. This includes situations where fixed or mobile networks are unavailable, disrupted by outages or security incidents, or unable to provide sufficient capacity or coverage.

The collaboration will encompass both satellite services and the technical platforms deployed at customer sites. Space Norway will contribute access to its portfolio of low Earth orbit (LEO) and geostationary orbit (GEO) satellite services, together with its extensive experience in operating services that support critical societal functions. Akkodis will contribute rugged hardware platforms, power systems, network integration, cyber security and testing, as well as manufacturing, customer delivery and support throughout the product lifecycle.

Akkodis Portable Emergency Connectivity Nodes are among the platforms included in the initiative. The integration work will connect satellite services to the nodes’ networks and other systems. Reliable operation in demanding conditions depends on satellite connectivity, hardware, power systems and network functions working together. By combining operational experience with platform development and verification, the companies aim to simplify deployment and ongoing operation for customers.

Per Kristian Egseth, Senior Vice President at Akkodis Nordics, said: “When communications fail, organisations still need to coordinate their people and maintain essential services. By combining our portable communications platforms and engineering capabilities with Space Norway’s satellite expertise, we aim to make reliable connectivity easier for customers to deploy and operate as part of their preparedness arrangements.”

Jan Hetland, Acting VP Business Civil Authorities at Space Norway, said: “Satellite connectivity helps keep essential services running when terrestrial networks are unavailable or cannot meet demand. Through this collaboration, we aim to bring together our broad satellite expertise and Akkodis’ platforms and integration capabilities to develop practical solutions for civilian customers across the Nordic region.”
