Avanti Communications wins award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Connect the Unconnected'

Avanti Communications has received the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Connect the Unconnected’ award at Africa's Premier Telecom Summit, Connected Africa, for its outstanding commitment to bridging the digital divide in Africa.

Connected Africa’s ‘Outstanding Contribution to Connect the Unconnected’ award recognises organisations that are dedicated to providing underserved communities with vital connectivity solutions. It honours the innovation and initiatives that have made a substantial impact on expanding connectivity and bringing the benefits of digital communication to remote areas that were previously unconnected.

Avanti has paved the way for a more connected and inclusive Africa through its relentless efforts to provide reliable and accessible satellite connectivity to hard-to-reach rural communities. The company has played a pivotal role in enhancing communication capabilities, empowering communities, and fostering socio-economic growth in underserved parts of the continent.

To date, Avanti has connected more than 1,000 villages and schools, providing services in Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Ghana, Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon and South Sudan. The company has plans to connect a further 10,000 sites over the next five years, positively impacting millions of lives and enabling communities to enjoy a connected life.

Kyle Whitehill, CEO at Avanti Communications, said: “We are delighted to have won the prestigious ‘Outstanding Contribution to Connect the Unconnected’ award at this year’s summit. Avanti has made a significant commitment to Africa, so to be given this recognition feels like a real honour. Great progress has been made across the continent, but our ongoing ambition is to connect the 871 million people currently living without a basic internet connection. Connectivity is a powerful tool that enables individuals, businesses, and communities to thrive, which is why we will not stop until it is a part of everyone’s reality.”

Avanti has invested over US$800mn in Africa and already has a growing footprint across the continent. More than a fifth of the company’s employees are based across Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Angola, and Benin.

In the 20th edition of the NSR Satellite Capacity Supply & Demand Analysis, Avanti was also named the market-leading high-throughput satellite capacity partner in sub-Saharan Africa for the second year running.
