Leankon introduces ultra-small L-band satellite antenna for next-gen Sat-IoT devices

Leankon has introduced the LK1850201, an ultra-small SMD L band satellite antenna designed for seamless integration into next-generation satellite-IoT (Sat-IoT) and mobile communication devices. With dimensions of just 3.2 × 1.6 × 0.5 mm, this antenna is engineered for today’s increasingly slim and space-constrained product designs.

With dimensions of only 3.2 × 1.6 × 0.5 mm and a weight of less than 0.01 g, the LK1850201 meets the needs of today’s highly space-constrained designs, enabling engineers to develop smaller, lighter, and more power-efficient satellite-connected products.

Broad L-Band Coverage

The LK1850201 supports the 1610–1680 MHz L-band frequency range, enabling connectivity with major satellite communication networks including:

  • Iridium

  • Globalstar

  • Inmarsat

  • Thuraya

  • Courier

  • Skywave

This broad coverage makes it ideal for multi-network devices that demand consistent, global reach.

Optimized for Compact, High-Reliability Applications

The LK1850201 is designed for applications where form factor, efficiency, and reliability are critical, such as:

  • Mobile satellite voice and narrowband data services

  • Military and government secure communications

  • Maritime and aviation safety systems

  • M2M (machine-to-machine) and asset tracking devices

Despite its miniature size, the antenna delivers robust performance:

  • Efficiency: >65%

  • Peak Gain: 1.6 dBi

  • Impedance: 50 Ω

  • Polarization: Linear

  • Power Handling: up to 5 W

The innovative design ensures uniform signal dispersion, maintaining reliable connectivity across various device orientations and operating environments. Its low peak gain simplifies compliance with regulatory requirements and device certification — a key benefit for engineers developing IoT and mobile products.

Built for Rugged Environments

Engineered for durability, the LK1850201 operates reliably in harsh environmental conditions:

  • Operating Temperature: –40 °C to +125 °C

  • Storage Temperature: –40 °C to +85 °C

As a standard SMD component, it integrates seamlessly into automated PCB assembly lines and requires only a 6 × 4.5 mm clearance area on the main PCB, helping engineers save valuable board space in compact designs.

Simplified Evaluation and Faster Time-to-Market

Leankon supports engineers early in the product development cycle by providing antenna samples and dedicated evaluation boards. This allows design teams to test and optimize antenna performance in their specific device configurations, streamlining prototyping and accelerating time-to-market.
