NOMADLINK sets up in minutes to deliver instant connectivity for emergencies, events, and remote areas with limited coverage

UK-based and European tech companies Excelerate Technology, Eutelsat (operator of the OneWeb satellite constellation) and Livewire Digital - supported by the UK Space Agency (UKSA) and the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems (ARTES) programme - have launched NOMADLINK, a breakthrough in rapidly deployable, resilient communications for major incidents, large public events, and rural or isolated communities across the UK.

NOMADLINK is a purpose-built connectivity trailer that functions as a rapid-deploy Wide Area Network (WAN) gateway, creating secure private cellular networks wherever they are needed. From festival crowds to flood‑hit farms, it enables seamless phone use, data access, and digital transactions even where existing coverage is poor or non‑existent and can be operational within minutes.

Running from March 2026 to February 2027 the project will raise awareness, build partnerships, and secure trials across key UK sectors including emergency services, agriculture, local government, events, and rural industries.

Across the UK, organisations increasingly need mobile, scalable, and robust communications that can be deployed at speed. Whether responding to natural disasters, supporting major events, or closing rural connectivity gaps, current solutions often struggle with slow setup times or unreliable terrestrial networks. NOMADLINK addresses these challenges with a next‑generation, modular platform capable of delivering high‑speed internet access within minutes, regardless of terrain or weather.

The technology behind the system

NOMADLINK is a lightweight, trailer‑based system delivering scalable connectivity up to gigabit speeds. At its core is Excelerate’s innovative Hybrid Edge, powered by Livewire Digital’s RazorLink technology, which provides the intelligent connectivity layer that keeps NOMADLINK online in all environments. By dynamically bonding and managing multiple bearers - including cellular, satellite, and Wi‑Fi - the Hybrid Edge ensures continuous, resilient communications even in areas with intermittent or no terrestrial coverage. This adaptive, software‑defined approach underpins NOMADLINK’s ‘always‑on’ capability, enabling uninterrupted data, telemetry, and situational awareness.

The system integrates advanced LEO and GEO satellite connectivity via vehicle‑mounted terminals operating on Eutelsat’s OneWeb constellation. A 4G extended‑range antenna and dual 5G‑capable modems enhance performance where terrestrial networks are available. Its modular, agnostic architecture supports additional satellite, cellular, or wired services, while a hybrid power system with intelligent management ensures reliable operation in demanding conditions. Users can connect via Wi‑Fi, Ethernet, private 4G/5G, or through the integrated LoRaWAN gateway for IoT devices.

Designed for simplicity and resilience, NOMADLINK supports a wide range of sectors including emergency services, local authorities, agriculture, events, hospitality, local businesses, and rural communities – all of whom are now invited to apply to trial the solution.

Rebecca Irving, Telecommunications Lead at UKSA, said: “NOMADLINK is a compelling example of what becomes possible when British innovation, satellite technology and public-private collaboration come together. The UK Space Agency is proud to support a solution that puts cutting-edge space-enabled connectivity in the hands of emergency responders, rural communities and event organisers who need it most. This project demonstrates exactly the kind of real-world impact we want to see from the UK’s growing space sector - keeping people connected when and where it matters most.”

Bethan Evans, Chief Operating Officer at Excelerate Technology, said: “We are extremely proud to lead the NOMADLINK consortium, bringing together world‑class expertise to deliver a truly transformative connectivity solution for the UK. By combining rapid deployment with resilient, high‑performance communications, NOMADLINK will give frontline teams, event organisers and rural communities the confidence that they can stay connected when it matters most. This project represents an exciting step forward in our mission to drive innovation in intelligent, dependable and accessible communications infrastructure.”

Antonio Franchi, Head of ESA’s Space for 5G/6G & Sustainable Connectivity within the ARTES programme, added: “A collaborative ecosystem is crucial to delivering on our commitment in the seamless integration of satellite with ground-based networks, and as we strive to connect everyone, everywhere and at all times. NOMADLINK marks another pivotal moment in strengthening Europe’s position in delivering top tier connectivity solutions, especially in very hard to reach places. By partnering with the very best expertise in the satellite communications sector, we’re striving to deliver fast and reliable connectivity when it’s needed most.”

Tristan Wood, CEO and Founder at Livewire Digital, said: “Modern incident response and event operations depend on applications that simply cannot function without robust connectivity. NOMADLINK shows how a hybrid approach can deliver fast, stable and scalable communications in a single, rapidly deployable solution. Livewire Digital is excited to provide the RazorLink technology that intelligently manages satellite, cellular and WiFi to keep teams connected from the moment the trailer is on site.”

Steve Mills, Vice President for Global Government at Eutelsat, said: “Reliable connectivity is essential for emergency response, public safety and rural resilience. NOMADLINK demonstrates how our OneWeb LEO constellation can be deployed rapidly to deliver secure, high-speed connectivity in remote and challenging environments. We’re proud to support this collaboration and help strengthen the UK’s ability to stay connected when it matters most.”
