Vast selects Addvalue for Haven-1 space station connectivity

Vast has selected Addvalue, a leading satellite communications company based in Singapore, to provide radio frequency communications systems for its Haven-1 space station. Vast’s Haven-1 is scheduled to launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket to low-Earth orbit (LEO) no earlier than August 2025 and is expected to be the world's first crewed private space station.  

Vast plans to utilize Inter-satellite Data Relay System (IDRS) transceivers made by Addvalue, which can provide on-demand, real-time connectivity with Haven-1 through the Viasat-Inmarsat ELERA network. This effort will enable Vast's objectives for robust, redundant, and space-proven critical telemetry links for the Haven-1 space station.

Representatives from Vast and Addvalue announced their collaboration at the Global Space and Technology Convention (GSTC) in Singapore. “We are excited for the flight heritage and communication capability that Addvalue brings to the table for our Haven-1 space station,” said David Caponio, Senior Vice President of Product and Business Development at Vast. “We appreciate Addvalue’s support in Singapore this week, and Vast looks forward to future collaborations in the Asia-Pacific region.”

“We are thrilled at the prospect of partnering with Vast, which is set to make history with its first commercial crewed space station,” Francis Low, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Addvalue, remarked. “It will also be the first time IDRS service will be adopted in a crewed space mission. IDRS now features more than a dozen clients offering a variety of space-based services in the LEO satellite industry and is truly gaining momentum as a de facto data communication standard for effective LEO satellite constellation management, mission tasking, and swift responses to space situational awareness.”
