WTA Certification Program announces Tier 4 certification of du’s Al Qudra Teleport

The World Teleport Association (WTA) announced that du has achieved Tier 4 certification of its Al Qudra Teleport in Dubai under WTA’s Teleport Certification Program.

The du certification marks the 57th issued since the program was launched at IBC 2015, and another 8 teleports are currently engaged in the quality evaluation process. The program provides transparent, independently verified standards as a means for teleports to differentiate themselves and for customers to choose the price-performance level suitable for their applications.

Certification is issued on a Provisional (self-reported) basis after completion of a +170-item questionnaire that is evaluated against standards developed by WTA’s Certification Committee. The teleport then has six months to achieve Full Certification. To achieve Full Certification under WTA’s program, an auditor is dispatched to visit the teleport, provide independent validation of the data submitted in the questionnaire, and identify additional factors that may positively or negatively affect the score. Full Certification is issued at a Tier number from 1 through 4, of which 4 represents the highest degree of excellence, and remains in effect for 3 years.

Certifications have been issued to teleports operated by IABG Teleport, A1 Telekom Austria Group, Hispasat, Gomedia Satcom, Azercosmos, Speedcast, Servicio Satelital, USEI, AXESS Networks, STN, Eutelsat, du, COMSAT, Nilesat, e&, Optus, Horizon Teleports, RADIOCOM, Talia, Telespazio, Vivacom, Cyta, PlanetCast, Globecast, KT sat, Singtel, Hellas Sat, Orange, Hawaii Pacific Teleport, Intelsat, Globecast, SMS, Telstra, Primacom, Stellar-PCS, Santander Teleport and Arqiva.

Saleem Alblooshi, CTO at du said: “The Tier 4 certification from WTA reiterates our commitment to building a robust satellite infrastructure. It reinforces du’s reputation as a critical link in the global broadcasting and telecommunications landscape, offering unparalleled network reliability and top-quality satellite services. Through the dedication, innovation, and unwavering commitment of our team, we consistently uphold the highest standards of quality, security and efficiency.”

Al Qudra facility is built on a large (75,000 square meters) plot and has full visibility of the geostationary arc, with no physical line of sight obstructions. The facility construction was completed in 2021 and the teleport currently has 45 transmit/receive antennas plus 22 receive-only antennas, providing access to S, C, Ku and DBS band satellites.

The Teleport Tier 4 certification signifies a significant milestone for du, demonstrating its dedication to excellence and its commitment to delivering exceptional satellite solutions. With this recognition, du is well-positioned to enhance its offerings and contribute to the continued growth of the space and satellite industry.

“Teleport Certification is accelerating rapidly in the post-COVID period,” said executive director Robert Bell. “It was introduced in 2015 and grew moderately year by year through 2019. But in 2023 to date, we have seen new and renewal Certifications take off, nearly doubling from the year before. We are proud to add Al Qudra to our list of Tier 4 WTA-Certified teleports.”

WTA’s Teleport Certification Program serves both teleport operators and their customers by creating an objective, transparent, and internationally accepted method for teleport operators to document the quality of their operations for customers and strategic partners. It also provides a means for customers to select teleport vendors delivering the price-performance level that is appropriate for their applications. Click here for a list of certified teleports.
